Erlend D. MacGillivray .

Editor (Ancient Philosophy, Second Temple Judaism)

photoI am currently a post-graduate researcher at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland; exploring the Stoic understanding of how non-philosophers could make moral progress, and the influence this had on how Hellenistic Jewish thinkers like Philo of Alexandria could conceptualize the theological and ethical capacity of Gentiles. My previous academic pursuits have led me to study the reciprocal exchange dynamics in Graeco-Roman and Jewish society (and the relevance this has for understanding the New Testament), as well as studying the institutional history of the Epicurean philosophical school.

I also maintain an interest in website design and in the expanding field of digital humanities. I founded as a way of combining these two interests. I currently serve as an editor for the sections relating to various classical philosophical traditions (Stoicism, Epicureanism, Cynicism) as well as Hellenistic Judaism and Patristics.
